The following is a link to a study guide on differential basic patient management. Most of the content is based on lecture. A portion is based on Bates' Guide to Physical Examination and History Taking 9th Ed. (2007) and The Medical Letter (TML), specifically Issue #1608 on migraines. See the page numbers in parentheses () to guide reading. This exercise is designed to be completed within ONE (1) hour. Of note, this exercise is NOT exhaustive. Other topics (e.g., from other issues of TML) or special case studies that arise may be introduced.
This study guide focuses on procedures. The main goals of this exercise are (1) to name and recognize procedures expected of U.S. medical school graduates, (2) to know a few procedures in depth, and (3) to learn basic procedural skills. Recommended references include Masternbjörk & Meloni's Suture Like a Surgeon Chapters 1 and 2 and SimSuture videos (available on YouTube). This entire exercise (including procedural skills) is designed to be completed within 90 minutes.
Paid Interns are required to pass a written final examination consisting of 100 multiple choice questions administered over 135 minutes. Paid Interns are allowed up to TWO (2) attempts to pass the written final examination.
Click the link below to view a practice final examination. The practice final examination is comparable in content and difficulty to the final examination and to the make-up final examination. However, all three examinations (i.e.; the practice examination, the final examination, and the make-up examination) consist of entirely different questions. The estimated pass level for this practice exam is 61%.
