We need your help! The following is a non-exhaustive, running list of all the ways the Medical Director can think of.
(1) Donate. Click the link at the bottom of the page (Donate). Get others to donate. We need an estimated 322 donors giving recurring donations of $12.40 to make the clinic sustainable indefinitely.
(2) Read this list and give feedback. Can you think of something IFEHC has not thought of? We humbly tell the public: we bet you can. Please let us know. Reach us at info@IFEHC.com or at the contact information (see link in the footer).
(3) Forming an advisory committee that gives the clinic suggestions and feedback. The Medical Director believes that the best way to become part of the community is for the clinic to involve the community's input.
- We want to tailor our services around what is important to the community.
- We want to refine or even revise our statement/mission/goals.
- We want to become a non-profit. We want input on the best form of organization to assume.
- Advising on the best ways to fund the clinic that are in keeping with the community's needs. Currently, we are aiming to seek recurring $12.40 contributions from a volume of donors. That is symbolic of the 12.4% uninsured in the non-Coastal West.
- Anyone with experience or particular insight putting together a successful application for a 501(c)(3)?
- Anyone good at using the various social media to which IFEHC gives links in the footer? There are links to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked-In, and Yelp!.
(4) Publicizing the clinic's services. There are countless avenues to help.
- Your own word of mouth
- Knowing and promoting the clinic's basic work: adult internal medicine, employment health (specifically DOT-CDL card holders), and opportunities for aspiring healthcare professionals (paid internship and scholarships). That if people have a question how the system works that no one else can seem to answer, they should try giving us a call.
- Working the clinic's buzzwords into regular discussions. Making them even pop culture. Examples: even as basic as pronouncing IFEHC correctly ("IFFIHC"), "non-Coastal West", "forgotten lower median wage earners" (viz, who are too well off to qualify for public aid), "free", "open late" (even 10-10 x 7 days/week), "non-emergencies", "by appointment only". Even trying to work our jingle into conversations: "IFEHC's free clinic for non-emergencies, open 10-10, 7 days a week by appointment only" (a mouthful!).
- Wearing t-shirts
- "Like" us on Facebook. Have your friends "Like" us. Share our page.
- Spread the word on social media. IFEHC does NOT endorse any post that its Medical Director has NOT approved.
- Advise us of venues we did not know exist!
- Going to colleges and telling them about the paid internship program.
- Going to professional schools and advertising the scholarships.
- Helping gather the support of anyone high profile or any news source.
- Asking colleges and other businesses to allow us to put up our flyers.
- Helping the Medical Director secure speaking spots. The purpose would be to educate the community on various topics. One of our four missions is to serve as advocates. We do so by employerment through education.
- Help with any surveys. It is very important to us to determine the attitudes and priorities of the community we serve!
- Any special talents that aren't coming to mind?
(5) Advise us projects with deadlines. We are creating a running project list - stuff to get the ball rolling. We recognize many opportunities for promotion require years of waiting. Unfortunately, it is sometimes hard to know what exists and what we are not asking.
(6) Medical services.
- Do you know of any medical specialists who believe in what we do and can help? They definitely exist. We humbly admit being a new establishment and not knowing everyone. They can live far away. We want to build a network.
- Do you know phlebotomists? Dr. Boren, the Medical Director, happily draws blood. However, it is time-consuming.
- Even other adult internal medicine doctors are good to have - whether as backup or due to patient preference.
- Examples among general medical specialties: Pulmonologists (especially those with sleep study backgrounds), OB/gynecologists, pediatricians (we do not handle pediatrics, but we will happily direct callers to people who want to help), neurologists, psychiatrists.
- We also need surgeons. We do not give surgery, but we need advice whether to recommend it or not to recommend it and possibly the help of someone who would give surgery pro bono.
- Finding experts - in any specialty - to help with collaborative projects.
(7) Obtaining basic medical supplies and equipment. Very basic stuff, like:
- non-latex gloves (large)
- cotton balls and gauze
- chax
- boots for headphones (audio testing)
- EKG printer paper
- 3D vision testing kit
(8) Ancillary services.
- Know an accountant or bookkeeper who will assist pro bono?
- Know legal counsel who will assist pro bono?
- Repair people who can calibrate medical devices. We have to send in the audiometer and EKG machine to be calibrated regularly. This means at our expense and also not having the equipment when it is sent away.
- Recruiting donors.
- Non-patient-related clerical work. Including sending follow-up letters to individual donors. IFEHC makes
- Publicists or people with special backgrounds
(9) Helping with fundraising efforts - without giving a cent
- Helping us reserve venues for scholarship fundraisers. If you can somehow help us reserve a venue at NO cost, IFEHC may be able to say truthfully that 100% of proceeds went to the charitable cause.
- Volunteering food for scholarship fundraising events. Again, so that IFEHC can truthfully say that any proceeds go directly to the cause.
- Does your employer routinely give to a charitable cause? Suggest they give to us!
