Family & Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) allows qualifying individuals up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for family or medical reasons. Most workplaces require individuals to have worked for at least 12 months. The following link is to the U.S. DOL's Wage & Hour Division's (WHD's) page on FMLA.
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) allows qualifying individuals up to two (2) weeks of paid time off for qualifying reasons which determine the percentage of salary paid. Even new and part-time employees are covered. Of note, this law applies mainly to private sector employers with fewer than 500 employees. The following link is to the U.S. DOL/WHD's page on FFRCA.
